Applications: March 14 - May 31, 2022.

In response to the growing interest in the Middle East, the ninth edition of the Summer School “Understanding the Middle East” critically unpacks gender studies to explore the role they have in re-defining regional trajectories. It also aspires to analyse new debates to better grasp the impact these studies have on the Middle East and North Africa region in historical perspective. The challenging and highly intensive programme will provide the students with the necessary tools of analysis to better understand the complexity of the Middle East and, at the same time, to put forward thoughtful explanations rather than oversimplifications.
The Summer School favours a political science approach offering interpretations that are useful to better comprehend the main critical issues at the regional level as well as to dedicate the necessary attention to the ongoing dynamics in some of the countries where the Arab uprisings were generated.
The working language is English and participation is open to students and professionals willing to critically explore the complex facets of the political dynamics of the Middle East region. The detailed program is available on-line.
Students who do not live in the Turin area may apply for one of the 10 FREETORINO scholarships (see Tomideast website for the details).
