Thursday 10 November, at 4 p.m.

New seminar in the series "Where is international cooperation going?" organised by the GeCo (Geography and Development Cooperation) working group.

The meeting, in videoconference (and in Italian), will have as speakers the Padova group's research in the Sahelian area (in particular, colleagues Andrea Pase and Mariasole Pepa will be present).

Il respiro del Sahel
The Sahel is one of the symbolic territories of international cooperation: a certain narrative of desertification that has driven a substantial part of European cooperation in recent decades has manifested itself with particular force in these places. But what exactly is the Sahel? A static and reductionist representation of the region has contributed to a kind of identification of these territories with a particular idea of environmental degradation that has deeply conditioned international cooperation. Is it possible instead to construct a less rigid and more fluid discourse on a region where movement has historically been part of society's strategies of adaptation to the environmental context?
On these issues we will dialogue with Andrea Pase and Mariasole Pepa (University of Padua), with the moderation of Valerio Bini (University of Milan).
